Dominant chords are not all the same, and it is very useful to be able to tell what is going on with the chord progression in Jazz, both for comping and soloing. This video sorts that out analyzing some of the different types of dominant chord you will come across and their functions: Tritone Substitutions, Backdoor and Secondary dominants.
