The White House, the U.S. intelligence community and the Pentagon have said climate change will worsen long-standing threats to global security, categorizing eleven countries vulnerable to climate change including North Korea.
In a report released Thursday, the Director of National Intelligence voiced concerns that some countries experience extreme climate events because their governments are ill-equipped to manage the fallout.
The countries include Afghanistan, Colombia, North Korea, India, Iraq and Pakistan.
This comes as world leaders prepare to gather in Glasgow next month for crucial U.N. climate talks, which the Biden administration has prioritized as one of its top priorities.
