Apocalypse in the USA! Heavy flooding after heavy rainfall in Tuscaloosa and Northport, Alabama!
Flash flooding covers streets in Tuscaloosa, including those on University of Alabama campus.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —
Some floodwaters are beginning to recede, after covering many areas of the Tuscaloosa area today.
A Flash Flood Warning remained in effect for an area of the county until 4:45 p.m., after downpours rained down earlier in the afternoon.
The rain continues to fall in many areas and flash flooding could be an issue Saturday. A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for all of central Alabama for Saturday.
Flash flood watch has been issued due to the threat for flash flooding today and tomorrow. Rounds of heavy rainfall will cause flash flooding so please take every warning seriously.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department reported many motorists were stranded in the floodwaters, forcing some drivers to climb out of their vehicles' windows to escape the rising waters.
Some flooded areas were 15th Street westbound to Central High, in addition to the 10th Avenue Apartments and Crimson Student Living at 11th Avenue and 17th Street.
TPD reported University Boulevard East and McFarland Blvd, Queen City and 13th Street and surrounding streets were impassable.
Also, flooding had been reported on the Strip, in the University Town Center, and several locations of 15th Street.
